Where Hand-Crafting Meets High-Technology

A good quality garden room is a serious investment: a lasting addition to your home or business which needs to stand up to the elements and retain its good looks. At Garden Hideouts we have adopted the building techniques used in some of the world’s most testing climates to create structures that have unrivalled durability.

Look under the cladding of any of our garden rooms and you’ll find a framework of immense strength and integrity which utilises proven techniques and fine materials to ensure the beauty is not just skin deep. We use the best grade plywood sourced directly from Finland to form the core of the structure. This is then precision cut on computer-controlled equipment before we handcraft the framework using artisan woodworking joints of a type that have stood the test of time.

By mixing traditional crafts and materials with the benefits of modern technology, we can develop buildings that bring you the best of both worlds. The sustainable natural woods, which can be oiled or left to weather, harmonise perfectly with a garden setting, whilst the super-effective modern insulation provides a room that’s economically heated and is always comfortable both in the depths of winter and the height of summer.

The room interiors also benefit from the natural beauty of solid wood and veneers, so that the overriding impression is one of timeless luxury combined with touches of contemporary design. Our rooms tend to be understated but full of good taste. Even the paint we use is a premium brand. In short, every room from Garden Hideouts has been given a specification that will provide guaranteed satisfaction from day one, and for years to come.

Garden Pod Walls

1. The framework cavity is insulated with a highly efficient layer of ecologically sound 100mm flexible mineral wool. The semi-rigid shape of the insulation allows it to be measured and cut accurately filling the void more completely, thereby providing excellent all year round thermal and acoustic performance.

2. The rigidity of the framework is compounded by the use of a tried and trusted tusk tenon and wedge jointing system, this jointing method creates a uniquely strong and versatile joint.

3. The interior of our Pod is lined with select grade Scandinavian redwood tongue and groove cladding. The primed and beautifully finished horizontal cladding not only adds a feeling of depth and substance to the interior but also compounds the building's overall structural rigidity.

4. The framework is constructed from a dual layer of bonded 18mm ‘Grade A’ structural plywood which has been sustainably sourced directly from Finland. Professionally cut from a unique CAD design by commercial CNC machinery, the precision framework design delivers a rigid and long-lasting monocoque structure.

5. Providing protection against condensation, water and air infiltration a high-performance breathable vapour membrane sits between the outer cladding and the building's framework protecting the integrity of the structure.

6. The slow grown Weston Red Cedar exterior cladding used on our buildings is not only atheistically pleasing, but it is exceptionally durable, stable and of course, ethically sourced. Our Western Red Cedar cladding can be either hand-oiled to preserve its rich colour or alternatively left untreated turning a muted silver-grey over the seasons.

Garden Pod Floors

1. The base framework cavity is insulated with premium performance 100mm foil-faced rigid insulation. The high compressive strength and water resistance of the insulation make it ideal for the floor void, providing excellent all year round thermal performance.

2. The rigidity of the floor framework is compounded by the use of a tried and trusted tusk tenon and wedge jointing system, this jointing method creates a uniquely strong and versatile joint.

3. Constructed from a dual layer of bonded 18mm ‘Grade A’ structural plywood which has been sustainably sourced directly from Finland. Professionally cut from a unique CAD design by commercial CNC machinery, the precision framework design delivers a rigid and long-lasting permanent base framework.

4. Our subfloor is constructed from exterior grade hardwood ply bonded with water-resistant adhesives to create a strong, flat and rigid base layer.

5. The 3” PVC Plastisol coated corrugated steel roof used on our huts is not only an atheistically pleasing and traditional roof covering, but it is exceptionally durable and able to withstand extreme weather and corrosion.
